For cold nights.
Meat Ingredients:
- 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 lb. ground hot sausage
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp. whole basil (crushed)
- 1, 16 oz. can (2 cups) tomatoes
- 2, 6 oz. cans tomato paste
- 7 – 8 pieces of lasagna
Directions:
Brown meat slowly spoon off excess fat. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer uncovered for a 1/2 hour. Stir now and then.
Cook 10 oz or seven (7) to eight (8) pieces of lasagna (usually takes six (6) pieces to fill casserole but good to have extra in case pasta tears) till tender. Follow directions on box.
Cheese Filling Ingredients:
- 3 cups of cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp. parsley flakes
- 2 beaten eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 lbs. mozzarella cheese sliced thin
Directions:
Mix first 6 ingredients, place half the cooked pasta in a 13x9x2 inch baking dish. Spread with half cheese filling. Cover with half mozzarella cheese and then half meat sauce. Repeat layers. Bake at 375 degrees for thirty (30) minutes.
Before serving let dish sit for 15 minutes.
