Perfect for a snack on the go, and a favorite of the twin.
Ingredients:
- 1 package Pillsbury All-Ready pie crusts
- 4 large Braeburn or Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1/8 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/8 cup sugar
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. apple pie spice or cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 3 tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1 tbsp. melted butter or margarine
- 1 tbsp. milk, for browning top
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1 cup confectioner’s sugar, for icing
- Few drops of milk for icing
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Let pie crust come to room temperature. Unfold one (1) crust and roll it out and so it’s a little larger. Place on a baking sheet (a pizza pan works well). Mix sugar (1/8 cup) and the flour (1/8 cup) together and sprinkle over the crust on the pan. In a bowl, mix together sugar (1 cup) and flour (1 cup), apple pie spice (or cinnamon) and the salt.
Put half of the apple sliced in a layer on the crust about one (1) inch from the edge, overlapping slightly. Sprinkle with half of the apple pie spice mixture. Repeat layers. Slice butter over top layer.
Unfold and roll out the second pie crust until it’s slightly smaller than the bottom one. Place on top. Turn up the edges of the bottom over the top crust all around. Using a fork, press down all the edges; then poke holes all over the top. Brush with melted butter, then milk so it will brown. Next, sprinkle sugar. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes, then at 325 degrees for 25 minutes. Let cool completely.
In a small bowl, mix together confectioner’s sugar with a few drops of milk so you can dribble it with a spoon. Drizzle this mixture all over the top.
Cut into slices or bars about 1 by 2 inches.
